Every site uses the account default routing unless you give it settings of its own on the site's own page.
When to override per site
The default routing suits most sites, but sometimes a single site needs something different, for example:
- An important client site that should page an on-call phone while the rest are fine with e-mail.
- A staging environment where you want fewer channels, or alerts only on outages.
- A site owned by another team that should go to their Slack channel.
How to do it
Open the site and go to its alert settings (Alerts for this site / Change who is alerted). There you build the same steps as in the default routing: which channels are alerted, what they are alerted on, and any escalation. What you choose applies to every monitor on the site unless an individual monitor has its own policy.
As long as the site has no settings of its own, it shows that the account default is in use. When you change and save, the site gets its own settings and stops following the default.
Sites without an override
Sites you leave alone keep using the account default routing. If you change the default later, all of those sites follow automatically, but sites with their own settings do not. The default routing page lists which sites have their own settings.
