How monitoring works

Warnings that are not outages

Some problems are real but not urgent. They produce a warning and the monitor stays up:

  • A certificate expiring within your warning window (default 14 days).
  • A domain registration expiring within the window (default 30 days), or carrying a status such as pending delete.
  • DNS records that differ from the last set we saw. After the warning the new set becomes the baseline, so you are told once per change.
  • Slow responses.

Warnings go to your step-1 channels at most once per day per issue. Expired certificates, expired domains and missing expected DNS values are different: they go through the normal confirmation and open incidents.
